Meloxicam

Indication

Oral suspension and solution for injection: For use in the alleviation of inflammation and relief of pain in both acute and chronic musculo-skeletal disorders.
Solution for injection: For the relief of pain associated with equine colic.

Characteristics

• Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class (COX-2 selective) which acts by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-exudative and antipyretic effects. It reduces leukocyte infiltration into the inflamed tissue. To a minor extent it also inhibits collagen-induced thrombocyte aggregation.
• The honey flavoured oral suspension is highly palatable and is easy to administer over feed or directly into the mouth. The complimentary dispenser syringe allows an accurate and easy dose adjustment.
• Metacam® is also available as an aqueous solution for injection.
• The different forms of presentations allow the initiation of therapy with an injection followed by the treatment with the oral suspension which can be administered by the horse owner.

Application

The Metacam® oral suspension can be administered with or without food.

The Metacam® solution for injection is administered as a single intravenous injection.
